Kids Consignment You'll Adore!

Story Time

When?  Fridays at 1:30 at That’s Adorable

Yes, well alright, I know that is nap time for some kids, but very few places offer fun outings on Friday afternoons for families.  Plus, I’m sorry to tell you, but your little one will not always nap, so then story time will be available.  Let me entertain them for a short time.

Sharing a good book is a family affair!

Why?  Literacy is SO important!  Kids need to be read to from a very young age.  Building their interest, finding adventures in books (hey Wisconsin has some LONG winters, right?). This is something small we can give to our children.

I’m reminded that at the end of the school year last year, I was given papers with lots of statistics about how much kids loose regarding their reading ability over the summer months (this particular study showed crazy high numbers if you are considered low income, which we are considered, instead of taking offense, I decided to focus on reading with my kids).  We signed up for 2-3 different reading programs through libraries in our area.  I used that as a tool to get the kids excited, who wouldn’t want to earn free ice cream and train rides, right?  I also give kids a free book on their birthdays.

New for 2013!  Guest readers every Friday all summer long!  I have an amazing line-up of local organizations and local business owners to read and occasionally provide activities for all ages!

June 7 – Sarah from Sarah’s Run

June 14 – Dean from Chippewa Valley Off-Road Bike Association (CORBA)

June 21 – Chester from AKF Martial Arts

June 28 – Dr. Leslie from ClearWater Dental

July 5 – Katie from Usborne Books

July 12 – Melissa from Puck-A-Bee’s Eco-Friendly Animal Grooming

July 19 – Kristen from Kite Flying Society and Record Rodeo

July 26 – Bethany, Local Actress, Dancer and Nanny

August 2 – Vanessa from Lily Pad Lab & Macaroni Kid

August 9 – Family Resource Center of Eau Claire

August 16 – Shannon from Lavender’s Green

August 23 – TBA

August 30 – Corey from the United States Postal Service

Then this fall:

Now this makes me happy and sad!!  I just realized that the upcoming Friday, May 31 at 1:30 will be the last time I read to the kids until September!!  We are going to read about superheros and I encourage you all to come and wear your capes/costumes!

See you soon and READ!

A Beginning….

On March 01, 2012, I was pushed by my mother to use that business degree I had obtained over 10 years ago.  She told me she thought owning a small local store, where my kids could go to work with me was the place for me to be.

I had my doubts.  I have three children (currently 8, 5 and 2) and at the time I had an unemployed spouse which meant it was time for changes in our family.  No longer could I just be a stay-at-home mom.  A frequent volunteer in my daughters school.  A La Leche League Leader.  I now had to find something that would help support us, which was completely scary for me.

Enter: a little local consignment boutique in downtown Eau Claire, called That’s Adorable.  For a couple of months the kids and I had been helping out the owner.  I had been a consignor for nearly for 2-3 years at the store, always bringing in my daughters dresses (all she would wear) and using my sales to buy her the next size up.  But the owner was considering selling or closing the store.  Here I am a year later, a store owner.

I’ve learned a lot and am working hard to offer the most unique and fun name-brand clothing along with everyday essentials at a reasonable price everyone can afford.  The store has been completely rearranged.  I’ve networked and added some amazing gift items provided by some very talented ladies in the Chippewa Valley (can you tell I’m excited about that part?).

I have a passion for children reading and offer books for $1 soft-cover and $2 hard-cover.  I give kids free books on their birthday and host a weekly story time every Friday at 1:30.  I also am taking my 4+ years of event planning at Western Michigan University and planning free or inexpensive family events.

Here I hope to blog about being thrifty, fun family events, kids recalls, host contests and more.  I hope to inspire and encourage plus to remind myself of this journey. I am hopeful to take what feels like an impossible situation for my family and surviving.
